Mark Toro sees real estate developments as opportunities to energize a region. He led the team at North American Properties that developed Alpharetta, Georgia's hugely popular $1 billion mixed-use Avalon project. Now as Chief Vision Officer at Toro Development Company, Mark is focused on three new projects he says will become "energy traps" for their communities, including Medley in Johns Creek, Georgia and Ovation in Franklin, Tennessee.

Mark describes the "cool hunting" trips his team uses to collect ideas and inspiration from other great projects like Federal Realty's Santana Row in San Jose, CA and Caruso's Palisades Village in Pacific Palisades, CA.

James Cook is the director of retail research in the Americas for JLL.
