On Monday, Colorado State coach Jay Norvell revealed that senior safety Henry Blackburn has been subjected to death threats following his late hit that resulted in the hospitalization of Colorado's versatile player, Travis Hunter.
Blackburn incurred an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during Saturday night's game for his hit to Hunter's midsection while attempting to defend a deep pass in the first quarter of the Rocky Mountain Showdown. This incident was one of 17 penalties committed by the Rams during their double-overtime 43-35 loss to Deion Sanders' Buffaloes in front of a packed stadium.
Norvell expressed deep concern, sharing that Blackburn, who hails from Boulder, and his family have had their home address exposed on social media platforms. The gravity of the threats has prompted the involvement of law enforcement.
"It's disheartening that our world has reached such a point. This is a football game; let's not escalate it beyond that," Norvell emphasized during his press conference. He underlined that their coaching philosophy does not endorse such dangerous plays and that he has been in discussions with Henry to address the matter both on the night of the incident and the following day.
