I have marched with companies and I have stood alone. I flew into the jungle with a hundred men, but I walked alone, facing my own horror. I watched people face the horrors of losing men we had known, but the weight of surviving and remaining on the alter only increased. I came back to the world I had known, and it was the same, but I had changed forever. I joined groups that claimed to serve God, but they had never met the One who walked with me in the face of terror and dismemberment, and I found myself more alone, though there were more people around me than ever before. Then I began to see the reality of the value God places on a single man. It was when there was no other person in my life that could see and recognize who I was, that I began to understand that I did not know who I was, and God began to take me places defined by mysteries only He could help me to understand.
