To be clear, this episode is about Hollywood, not wood as a weapon. So, if you've ever wondered about those killings that are shrouded in the glitz and glam of Hollywood, today's your day! Are we surprised that Hugh Hefner and homophobia play a huge role in our stories? Unfortunately, no. First, Brandon introduces us to a Dorothy Stratten, a woman that went from being an ice cream attendant to Playboy's Playmate of the Year. Not that we need to take anything this guy says seriously, but Hugh Hefner went on the record to say: "There is still a great tendency for this thing to fall into the classic cliché of ‘small town girl comes to Playboy, comes to Hollywood, life in the fast lane… That is not what really happened. A very sick guy saw his meal ticket and his connection to power, whatever, slipping away. And it was that that made him kill her." At the end of the day, that's a very convenient narrative for Hugh, the ring leader of the Playboy Mansion, to subscribe to. So you'll just have to listen for yourself to decide what you think is true! Next, Kevin takes us way back in time to the 20s when the...dust bowl ...happened?? Oh wait, no! The Roaring 20s... That's what he meant. Those two historical events are apparently pretty easily confused! But, if you've ever taken a film history class, you've probably heard the name Ramon Navarro. He was a Mexican Actor who began his career in 1917 in American silent films. He quickly became a leading man and one of the top Actors of the 1920s and early 1930s films! His life would end tragically when two homophobic and deeply disturbed hustlers decided to play judge, jury and executioner. Tune-in to learn what came of his assailants. After today's episode, you'll never look at your toolbox the same way! Or children for that matter. We drunkenly decided on this week's topic: death by hammer. And what did we find? Creepy little men killing their parents! Who's surprised!? Kevin takes us on a journey to Tyler Hadley's place where a band of teenagers unknowingly throw a huge rager while Tyler's parents lay dead under a pile of coffee grounds. Sounds effed up, right? It is. Almost as effed up as the fact that none of us were invited to huge parties like that in high school... Seriously though, Tyler was a creep who premeditated his parent's murder. And, even with it being premeditated, he still chose a hammer as his weapon. There's a lot to unpack there... But one major takeaway: if your friend is randomly bringing up their fixation with the idea of killing their parents - maybe take them seriously! Then, Brandon takes us to the UK to answer the question "who killed the Blackwell's"? Turns out - it's their freak of a son! After basically robbing his parents by lying to the bank (a feat we still can't quite wrap our brains around), Brian Blackwell went insane with the hammer he just so happened to be holding. Moral of these stories? Don't have children! Or if you do, don't give them any sharp or heavy objects until they've successfully proven themselves to be mentally sane. If you're not on TikTok and you have no idea what we're talking about - women across social media are saying that if they had to choose between being attacked by a man or a bear, they would choose the bear. And what state do you think of when you think of the bear? That's right! Chicago. So sit back and relax (?) while Kevin and Brandon tell the tale of two absolute monsters that terrorized the city. Speaking of... Chicago has a very long list of serial killers. What's going on there? If you're based in Chicago, please clue us in. Brandon kicks us off with The Ripper Crew. TRIGGER WARNING: female body mutilation. The Ripper Crew consisted of 4 homely, inbred-looking white dudes. Are we surprised? Robin Gecht, Edward Spreitzer and brothers Andrew and Thomas Kokoraleis went on a killing spree that ended in satanic sacrifices. We say they look inbred because they... probably are. For some unknown reason, the kinks of the fathers and grandfathers before them were passed down. Why you would even be aware of what your grandfather's sexual kink is, we will never know. Robin set up a “satanic chapel “ in the attic of his family home. The three would often meet when his wife was not home. This attic space was only lit by candlelight, had an altar that was draped with a red cloth, and had six red and black crosses at the back of it. If that doesn't give you an eerie sneak peak into the vibes of this story, we don't know what will. Next, Kevin is telling us all about one of America's first mass m$rders (censored so YT doesn't shadowban us!). Richard Speck killed eight female nursing students in something the coroner called the, “crime of the century.” You'll hear about the sole survivor of Speck's rampage. Hearing the way she recounted the story and then stood up and called out Speck in court is really a feat. Considering the current state of this country and the sheer amount of mass m$rders we see on a weekly basis, it's a bit surreal to learn more about the first documented one. But perhaps the most interesting thing about this case is what Richard did once he was in prison. Stick around for the end to hear about this... strange turn of events. Stacey Mitchell, a sweet, albeit annoying, teenage girl with a propensity to post weird sh*t on MySpace (classic teenage girl behavior), had the misfortune of meeting Jessica Stasinowsky and Valerie Parashumti. Jessica and Valerie were a straight up diabolical couple. They were part of the vampire subculture and took it about one thousand steps too far. This story includes a "pash" over Stacey's body and a little weenie of a boy who asked to be blindfolded and escorted away from the murder. Surely it wasn’t just because of a pair of shoes. Well, certain disturbing incidents (…pooping and peeing in super inappropriate places…), definitely pointed towards mental illness. But you’ll have to tune into the episode to find out what the verdict in Daniel’s case was! Then, Kevin is introducing us to an iconic (demonic?) little girl named Mary Bell. Mary Bell and her creepy, gross friend Norma might bring the shining twins to mind. Mary Bell was taking her childhood trauma and inflicting it tenfold on the younger kids in the schoolyard. Four-year-old Martin Brown was found with an empty bottle of pills next to his body. Originally, his death was assumed to be an accident. Weird oversight considering Mary Bell actually strangled him! We’re diving into nature vs. nurture, The Mary Bell Orders (think witness protection…for convicts), and a b!tch named Sarah. It’s a wild ride that’s sure to keep you up at night! Kevin starts us off by taking us back in time to 1884, when a small crew set sail on the Mignonette, a small yacht that left out of the same port the Titanic would later leave from (bad juju, amiright?). Little did they know, this trip would turn them into cannibals! But these cannibals might actually be crowned “Cannibals with the Most Integrity,” because they admitted their crimes as soon as they were rescued. Slay!!!!... I suppose. Brandon then takes us to for a deep dive into darker waters. Thanks a lot, Brandon! Oba Chandler, an average looking Joe who came from a family of dairy farmers, used his boat for pure evil. Are we surprised that a white straight man with a boat is an awful human being? No! But we were a bit surprised to find out that he was caught... you'll see why! Moral of the story? CONTENT WARNING: dismemberment, torture, rape Brandon starts off the episode with a twisted tale of a killer who was accidentally caught by the police. That's right, accidentally caught! Who knew that a missing license plate on a crusty old truck would be the start of a 20-minute high-speed chase around Long Island? What the police weren't expecting when they apprehended the driver was the decomposing body in the bed of the truck. Sure, the police were gooped and gaged... like literally, we would have gaged over the smell emitting from the back end too. From here, we learn about the slaying of at least 17 sex workers by weirdo, Joel Rifkin. The moral of this story here kids... Don't be a bully. And if you are being bullied... maybe don't be a murderer! Kevin then tells the tale of a gay, narcissistic, alcoholic sociopath who felt like his one-night stand should have been a lifelong love affair. Like sir, you just met... When the well-known reporter in the gay community didn't reciprocate the odd "soul connection" with this dirtbag, all hell broke lose. Described as a gay murderer with a taste for more than a dingalong... or em' dingaling... this story will have you shook for days! Filled with BDSM, gay life in the 70's, a potential gay serial killer, and the general lack of police protection, the story of Paul Bateson will leave you speechless. Oh, and did we mention there is a weird tie-in with the 1973 hit movie, The Exorcist? Talk about your head spinning. Hopefully, this episode won't have you projectile vomiting! I guess being the biggest losers New Mexico has ever seen pushed them to their breaking point because these killers created "Satan's Den." CONTENT WARNING: sexual mutilation, torture, rape Then, Brandon is telling us a tale of saliva + sorcery. And all we can say is... YUCK. Ahmad Suradji was a self-proclaimed Dukun (AKA Shaman) in Indonesia. For some reason, he thought he should take his dreams literally. What did his dreams entail? According to Human Rights Watch, black trans women are at heightened risk of violence at the hands of strangers, partners, family members, and law enforcement. From 2016 to 2021, at least 88% of the transgender people killed in Florida, 91% in Ohio, and 90% in Texas, were all people of color. Today's episode is a bit more serious and is one we truly hope you take the time to listen to. Kevin, Brandon, and Producer Anna, all sit down to spotlight two black trans lives that were tragically taken in the 90's. Unfortunately, both of these cases remain unsolved, which is largely due to the fact that trans lives, specifically black trans lives, have not been prioritized within our justice system. Kevin starts us off with the story of Marsha P. Johnson. Marsha was a woman who you've probably seen on a mural or two sporting a beautiful flower crown. Among her community throughout Greenwich Village she was known as the "Mayor of Christopher Street," which is contributed to her welcoming nature. She was vocal and active in her pursuit of acceptance for all transgender people. The circumstances surrounding her death are still a mystery. We'll get into exactly what we know and what investigators failed to find. Then, Brandon introduces us to Rita Hester, one of the women who inspired Transgender Day of Remembrance. Rita was outgoing and spontaneous. A friend even remembered her as the only link between the city’s queer bars and the decidedly hetero nightlife uptown. She was bolder than all of us. I mean, she had a pet boa constrictor for Christ's sake! Unfortunately, that did not save her from the extreme hate someone harbored against her in what looks to be a hate crime. This is the story of Jeffrey Lundgren and the small paramilitary religious cult that killed the Avery family on the night of April 17, 1989. The reasoning? Well, Dennis Avery was speaking out a bit too much, and the kids were "unruly." So naturally, the whole cult decided it was perfectly acceptable to sacrifice them! Then Brandon tells us the tale of how one man's "internal Jesus" led to a truly horrifying scene years after his death. Basically, Jakob Lorber thought himself a prophet, wrote all of those internal Jesus thoughts down, and a cult formed after his death. Then, a little creep named Harald Alexander had a baby named Frank and decided that the baby was a prophet. And guess what!? His whole family went along with it. Like, so much so that when Frank declared "the killing hour," his mother and sisters were like, "Okay, slay me, brother, that's totally fine!" WTF! Moral of the story?
