This week, @momixpod mixes The Queen Elizabeth Cocktail, inspired by 2008’s "Quantum of Solace." While the hosts point out that Casino Royale’s sequel is anything but classy, they certainly agree that Dame Judi Dench is the true royal inspiration behind this week’s episode. As they sip their tart drinks, Pat and Marissa discuss why Quantum sticks out as a disappointing moment in an otherwise exceptional Craig-era run. Will the hosts ever be able to put their bitter feelings and comparisons to Casino Royale aside? Will their biases allow them to give Quantum a fair shake? Listen on to find out! BOND: "You know, I was just wondering what South America would be like if no one gave a damn about coke or communism. It's always impressed me the way you boys have carved this place up." FELIX: "I'll take that as a compliment coming from a Brit." Leiter takes a swig of the cheap beer the bartender has laid in front of him. BOND: "Are you sure you're playing with the right side?" Suddenly, where there was once an empty bar, stands Lloyd, the bartender. LLOYD: "Yes, it is Mr. Torrance. What'll it be?" JACK: "Well I'm awfully glad you asked me that, Lloyd, because I just happen to have two twenties and two tens right here in my wallet. I was afraid they were going to be there until next April. The hosts talk about the film's similarities to the spy blockbusters of today, the prevalence of hilarious irony, and the incredible set-pieces that hold up over a half-century later. STEWARD: "Cocktail before dinner?" THORNHILL: "Yes, please. A Gibson." STEWARD: "Right away." He goes off. Thornhill takes up the menu, studies it. The girl raises her eyes, studies him. He looks up, catches her glance. She quickly looks down. He glances down at the menu again, then looks up at her. She glances up, catches him, and he looks away. Now she looks away. Then they both look up at each other at the same time and meet head on. They smile. THORNHILL: "Well - here we are again." ¡Surprise amigos! Episode 5 of Movie Mixology features not one, but TWO, set-in-Mexico films by Latinx director Robert Rodriguez: 1992's El Mariachi and 1995's Desperado. This week, Pat and Marissa mix an "El Diablo" as their first "inspired by" drink for the show. Together, the hosts thematically connect the films' religious imagery, creative problem solving, and fiery action to their spicy cocktails. BUCHO: "Manito?" Mariachi is emotionless. Bucho is in disbelief. BUCHO: "What the are you doing here? I thought I was looking for the devil himself..." Robert Rodriguez's 10 Minute Film School: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQE9eEmu1b4…
