Text “Do people even want to know about some of these issues? Because I think some of the meat production concerns, it's kind of like people would rather in some cases, I think some people might not really want to know all the nitty gritty. They don't want to know how the sausage is made. That poses an interesting question and challenge about how you communicate about some of these issues, when maybe there's a resistance among a subset of people who don't want to know more.” - Patti Truant Anderson This is the fourth episode in a special four-part series where we go deep into the food system with some of the brightest minds from Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, an interdisciplinary center based out of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. One of the reasons that we did this series is because we're about to enter another four years with the Trump administration; and last time, as we know, the Trump administration was pretty terrible for the food system in terms of climate, public health, worker safety, and of course, for the animals. This conversation is with Patty Truant Anderson. Patty is a senior program officer at the center. Part of her work at the Center focuses on public opinion polling around the food system. These polls can inform decisions by lawmakers. The great news is we're not nearly as polarized as it might seem. There is a lot of hope in the results. 1:03:54It's the first episode of 2023! Craig and I discuss the women in my life, then Beth Lapides talks about her new audiobook. Our film critic Tim dives into the controversy of "The Whale," and I discuss one of many reasons to dislike Adam Sandler.
1 It's a very special Get Off My Lawn Christmas episode featuring screenwriter David Steinberg 59:20
Deck them halls, trim those boughs of holly, and join us for our very special Christmas episode. There will be caroling, story-telling by the fire, a visit from St. Nicholas himself, and interpretive dance (luckily, this is not a video podcast, or the dancing would scar you for life). Joining us to talk about writing and lawyering is David H. Steinberg. Then Tim reviews the Avatar sequel, or he tries to but Kevin keeps interrupting. There may or may not be an Easter egg after the credits, though considering the season, maybe it should be called a Christmas egg?…
Broadcasting legend Mark Thompson discusses moving "The Mark Thompson" show from terrestrial radio to online live-streaming. We also discuss the pitfalls and challenges of working in "new media." Also, Announcer Craig and I desperately 9almost pathetically) try to get Volvo to sponsor the podcast.
We've got Mark Thompson from the Mark & Brian radio show to talk about his new book and the state of broadcast radio. Hooty hoo! Even if you didn't listen to M&B, Mark has had a unique radio career, and it was an amazing opportunity to chat with him. But wait... there's more! Act now, and you can also listen to our film critic Tim discuss the latest Will Smith movie and the Knives Out sequel... that's two reviews for the price of none! And there may or may not be a few Easter Eggs for M&B fans along the way. Be good humans!…
We talk to two writers on this installment of the podcast. First up, Mike Reiss who has written for stage and screen (and books and leaflets and frankly every other form of media) talks about life in the writer room for The Simpsons, Johnny Carson, Garry Shandling, Ice Age, ALF, and my personal favorite The Critic. Then Herbie J. Pilato returns to discuss his latest book about the Christmas season. Plus we have Tim discussing RRR... spoiler alert: NOT a Christmas movie.…
The Rev. Rob Lee joins us to discuss civil rights, online activism, and Star Trek. Tim joins us to discuss Christmas movies, and we try to figure out an adjective to describe him.

1:08:29We catch up with our genial host and our intrepid announcer, we explain where we've been and what we've been up to, we chat with Kevin O'Connor, longtime house of "This Old House," and we find out our resident film critic Tim's Top 5 of '22... and there may or may not be a post-credit Easter Egg.
Edward James Olmos narrates a story of the birth and life of Jesus, accompanied by a massive choir and orchestra
There's a place on Earth that some describe as the happiest place. For legal reasons, we won't name the specific happy place, but I have fond (even happy) memories of it. At such a place, around this time of year, a beautifully produced Christmas musical production is undertaken, complete with a story of the birth of Jesus. No mention of Santa, and no mention of a certain cartoon rodent often seen in the aforementioned happy place. On this particular year, all-around good guy Dick Van Dyke served as the narrator. Enjoy, and merry Christmas.…

Cancelled guests, dead batteries, audio glitches, and other perils shall not prevent this week's podcast. We talk about Mr. Rogers, we mock Millennials, and we review the latest Samuel L Jackson film. Thanks for MelodySheep for permission to include the song heard at the top of the show.
